Alan is married to Jan who is a piano teacher and singer, singing in Psalmody, the Marenzio Singers, and other chamber choirs.  She is the co-author, with Alan, of the Pianoworks series of piano tutors and repertoire books published by OUP.   We both sing in the choir at Lion Walk United Reformed Church in Colchester. We live in Colchester which is about 50 miles from London and on the edge of some beautiful countryside.
Alan works full-time as a free-lance composer - up until Summer 2005 he was Head of Composition at the Centre for Music and Performing Arts, Colchester Institute.  He is also an examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

We have two children, Sam and Mary:

Sam Bullard is a graduate of Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is a professional saxophonist: he plays regularly in the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, Syd Lawrence Orchestra, The Big Shakeup, The Sam Bullard Quartet, and several London shows and other bands. He also teaches at Westminster Under School, Trinity College of Music, and St. Olaves Grammar School, Orpington. He lives in S.E. London with his wife Lauren and their daughter Azalea.
